#01 Normandy Beach, NJ Print
Regular price $20.00From my April 2020 hand painted watercolor collection, 31 Days of Mini Paintings. Each of these 4”x4” pieces were inspired by my favorite places I have visited around the world, they each hold very special meaning for me and my loved ones. My first visit to Normandy Beach, NJ, was 10 years ago. I had never experienced anything like it, a true little 8 block Norman Rockwell town. Everyone was so friendly, cool breezes, miles of bright umbrellas, families all gathered underneath sitting in colorful chairs, beautiful sunrises, children wave jumping in the Atlantic surf, grandparents playing card games with their grandchildren, Kaboodles ice cream 🍦 every night...together. It was like going back to a time.
In Texas we have hot beaches, EZ up tents, cars park right along the shore, tar sticks to the soles of our feet, the sand never comes off, it’s such a different experience...only the family keeps it anything similar.
That is what I am reminded of when I look at this #1 painting from my 31 Days of Mini Paintings collection...a pause in time and a memory that lasts.

#02 Jerusalem, Israel Print

Just a few short months before the 9/11 tragedy I hopped a plane to Israel 🇮🇱 my beloved...alone. No plans, no friends, no group, just me and a suitcase and a serious longing for a place I had never been. A Messianic Jewish couple I met online a week before my trip offered to pick me up in Tel Aviv and drive me to Jerusalem (yes, I terrify my mother, sorry mom). I couldn’t wait to drop my bags in the hotel (an old bombed out room) in the Jewish Quarter, grab a bite at Mama’s, run in Shorashim of the Old City, and make my way to the Wall. It was more than I ever could have imagined, families singing praises all night from their stone lined corridors, windows open wide, challah wafting through the night air. I was in love and I would never be the same. I toured the entire country, visited the Holocaust Museum, Dead Sea Scrolls, Sea of Galilee, Zichron, enjoyed allllllll of the food, the culture, the landscape, and found my people when I fell in love with Safed. 🕊 Two weeks later when I had to come home, I was blessed with a sunset the size of Texas! A pilgrimage I will never ever forget.
Watercolor #2 Jerusalem, Israel from my collection, “31 Days of Mini Paintings” is wholeheartedly my visual experience in the Holy Land.
Printed on archival quality 140lb (300gsm) 100% cotton acid free watercolor paper on Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark 2 printer with genuine Canon Chromalife inks for beautiful long lasting color. The white border is maintained for framing.

It was a whirlwind trip, my best friend was heading to NY for business and asked me if I wanted to come along...for 2 days. I was the entertainment planner, finding pockets of time to squeeze in fun memories. Top of the list was the Umbrella Club (what my father in law called the Sabrett hotdog stand, when he was a young attorney and couldn’t yet afford the clubs the partners went to for lunch), we hopped in a cab to catch a glimpse of the city, we ate at Carmine’s in Times Square, saw Phantom of the Opera (it was awesome sitting right under the chandelier), and we took a sightseeing boat tour around the harbor beneath the Freedom Tower ‘One World Trade Center’ that was under construction. That’s when I saw her up close, Lady Liberty 🗽 She is breathtaking, "Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" ~ Emma Lazarus
This #3 New York, NY, from my collection “31 Days of Mini Paintings”, celebrates generations of souls that found freedom on our shores.

There is just something about traveling Tuscany that captivates memories with its total sensory experience...long past the return home. Golden fields of sunflowers, churches with spectacular frescoes (and funny little machines that take your money to turn the lights on), tiramisu, lemoncello, water with ‘gas’, art, art, art, outdoor shopping in Florence, ohhhh the gelato, the trains, the cars, the accents, the pasta and the art. There are not enough days to take it all in, there isn’t a traveling dream that doesn’t involve long days with my love and our little and plein air painting with a master. The land of beauty, romance, art, and love ❤️ #4Tuscany, Italy, from my collection “31 Days of Mini Paintings”.

Bluebonnets grow naturally in Texas and blanket the state every spring with their majestic beauty...absolutely breathtaking!
It is so exciting to spot them as they usher in the new season, lining everything from hills to fields to highway medians.
Bluebonnets are the vibrant invitation for long Sunday drives in the hill country, windows down, music loud, messy bbq stops, family pictures, and picturesque views worthy of paint and paper. They don’t visit us for long, and we can’t wait until next year when they come again. Indians called them a gift from the “Great Spirit” and they are the epitome of “God blessed Texas”, couldn’t agree more.

When the kids were little I used to load them up on Friday after school and head out camping...just us. For the better part of 10 years I setup our tent in the dark, I basically achieved master status at kid campground friendly setup (tv and DVD player included). Our favorite place to camp became Lost Maples State Natural Area, it was like we entered another world, gorgeous hills, lots of colorful Maple 🍁 Trees that found their way to Texas, crystal clear water, fireflies everywhere, stars filled the night sky, s’mores and campfires and cuddles, our little piece of heaven. Our most shocking memory was tarantula migrating season, who knew they migrate? 🤷🏻♀️ We awoke to no less than 100 on our tent, campsite, and picnic bench, lots of shrilling squeals all around. Our days were filled with hiking up the hills to take in the most breathtaking view below, having lunch atop the cliff with our feet dangling over the edge, skidding all the way down the steep rocky terrain and plunging into the cool creek water, watching the kids catch baby toads and crawl in the deep eroded crevices. What I wouldn’t give to have those days back again.

This area has always been a favorite place for me, 22 years ago the light came on inside my heart as I joined a very small group of friends to feed many homeless hungry bellies. I was huge pregnant with my second child, holding the hand of my first born princess, eyes wide open at the line that was a mile long, knowing there was no way the food I was serving was going to feed all of the people standing before me. I watched in complete shock as I served ladle after ladle and the level of the hot stew in my pot did not drop. I had tears, I had fear, I had excitement, I had seen a miracle. Truly. When the last person walked up I still had enough for a few to enjoy seconds. I’m still not sure if I was there for them or for me, we all walked away full. I was changed, my light was ON.
What seems hopeless and forgotten one decade becomes the restoration of all things in another. In a few short years that homeless outreach ministry became Church Under The Bridge with a new facility only a few blocks away.
Today “The Pearl” is no longer an old run down brewery, it is the most gorgeous hot spot in our city!! This once industrial area on the fringe of downtown San Antonio is now a renovated upscale historic district with people bustling about the fabulous restaurants, shopping, dog parks, apartments, hotels, and the San Antonio River running right through it! One would never know the way it used to be... I like to think that’s the hope for all of us, the once downtrodden people and places are no more, now filled with joy and colorful bright lights! Just like The Pearl.
One pearl of great price, one soul full of light.

My childhood friend started an orphanage and school in Kenya, named in honor of her late husband, “Jesus. Hobbs House of Hope”. He used to say, “It’s Jesus, period”. When she invited me to come with her the appropriate response was YES!!! When she invited me the second time...YES!!! This is her favorite tree, an acacia behind the dorms where she would sit and read and pray...it became my favorite too. I learned some things when I was there, mostly from the children. Personal space is not a thing, my hair is worthy of lots of braids, you can have everything while having nothing, the bread comes from heaven, showers are weird from a bucket and the water heater thing shocks you when you’re wet, it’s better to close your eyes when on the highway, coffee is ahhh-mazing, innocence is possible, mosquito nets are so cool to sleep under, it sucks to come home, swimming in your clothes is more fun, clothes hung on a line smell like divine life, and Carol the house mom could belt out “No other Name” in worship 🎶 that would bring you to your knees. I cried a lot when I left, it’s also the appropriate response when your soul finds peace and rest. I have a little boy I love there named John Kamau, I miss him terribly, please keep him and the children in your prayers, they’re the light of Kenya’s 🇰🇪 future.

Tacos help with big decisions 🌮 ⛺️ . My best friend and I were at our daily taco addiction when she shared she would like to have a ladies camping retreat weekend at some point, I’m pretty spontaneous and replied...”Why not now?” Shortly thereafter she had orchestrated a weekend that would spark a movement! We were in tents, outdoors, enjoying creation, fresh breezes, campfires and s’mores, cool crisp mornings and what would birth #riversideworshipfestival a few months later. I am quite fond of the humble beginnings, 5 girlfriends sitting around in chairs, playing our favorite worship on our phone because there weren’t live bands attending yet, opening our eyes to find no less than 100 red cardinals had surrounded us to join in the praises. It was definitely a sign. Telling that part never gets old. Thinking back on those early days, my favorite memory is the women that came, “sans makeup, mirrors, and judgment”, Alli coined that and it stuck. All the colors of skin, a vast array of beliefs and affiliations, but somehow under a canopy of stars and rainbows we were just simple women in love with God and one another. And coffee. We like the coffee. A lot. Maybe more than we should admit. Who am I kidding, WE LOVE COFFEE AND JESUS.
I hope and long for the days when we gather again, beside the river, laughing, dancing, celebrating, and eating at one long beautifully decorated table. It’s a pretty sweet place with some pure as gold friends.

#10 Cedar Creek Golf Course, TX Print
Regular price $20.00From my April 2020 hand painted watercolor collection, 31 Days of Mini Paintings. For over 6 years my husband has worked at Cedar Creek Golf Course in grounds maintenance. He spends all of his days outside while mine are mostly in the studio. Covid-19 brought many changes, including a course closure that allowed us to run free and receive a much needed hard reset for the realignment of our souls. This gorgeous green haven has often been a source of escape when we crave all that matters, just us and our little heartbeat running around in the beauty of nature with his dog Jersey...all together, no walls. Here imagination is inspired by fresh air, sunlight, birds, breeze, and breathtaking scenery. It’s in these moments that our future hopes and dreams come alive. Traveling the country in an rv, spending quality time together every single day, hiking, exploring, fishing, wandering in wonder, chair by a stream plein air painting what the naked eye can hardly take in, sunrises, sunsets, butterflies and s’mores, so far from a signal or a ‘to-do list’, overcome by Love, all the possibilities bubbling up like streams in the desert. It’s these precious outdoor moments in Creation that keep us hopeful in the four wall days.

On the drive up to northern Israel I was wowed with all that I didn’t expect...everything looked like Texas...from flat farmlands to rolling hills, cows and crops, rosemary and sage growing wild, snow capped highlands and white capped sea. The luxurious Ruth Rimonim Hotel welcomed me with exquisite sheets, fine dining, and breathtaking views. I wandered outside and strolled right into an artist community I didn’t even know it was there!! Shop after shop of local artisans, my favorite discovery being Leon Azoulay @leonartist13 who so generously spent more than an hour explaining the history of Tzfat, survival through war and strife, spiritual art and his love of micro calligraphy...an ENTIRE book of the Bible in tiny Hebrew forming a visual depiction of the story and finished with vibrant watercolor. It takes 2 years to create, working a few hours a day, so much strain on the eyes, absolutely awe inspiring!! (I might have come home with a few)
The rest of my days were spent touring the places I had read about for years. I saw where Elijah slew the prophets of Baal, touched the archaeological digs of Capernaum where Jesus walked and taught in the synagogues, walked the shores in Tabgha where the fishes and loaves miracle took place, and braved severe motion sickness on the Sea of Galilee where the disciples learned to trust Love. Remembering these days of his, and now mine, still brings tears to my eyes. Every morsel of food was fresh and inviting, much like the strangers I encountered at the long tables lined with platters of delectable discovery. The bread. I would return just for the bread. Taste and see the Lord is good. Really really good.

When your best friend invites you on a trip to San Diego, California...you get a sitter!! It’s the craziest thing, standing on the beach in the heat of the sun while simultaneously chilled by the cool crisp air, I’ve only experienced this magnificence here. Our trips come with memories that last a lifetime!! Loads of laughs as flamingos picked through our hair on a behind the scenes tour at Sea World, shopping and eating our way through Old Town at Miso Harney Sushi, taking a drive up to La Jolla to watch the seals play under the gorgeous mile high palm trees near our favorite rooftop fish taco spot, George’s at the Cove. Sunsets there are just better. Way better. Why it took so long to meet I’ll never know, I’m just glad we did. We were both born 3 months apart, we both lived in California as children, we have both lived in Sacramento, we both ended up in Texas, we both were once a size 0 with no internal organs, we both worked at a staffing company in our early 20’s (where we bonded through a series of unfortunate events that might have involved a copier, a shoe and some tp 🤣), we have made a lot of memories in California that are worthy of art and lots words to come. There is nothing like friendship.

#13 Maui, HI Print

Each of these 4”x4” pieces were inspired by my favorite places I have visited around the world, they each hold very special meaning for me and my loved ones. Maui *sigh* My first trip to Maui was with a childhood friend, we stood at the departure gate, pen and paper in hand, writing the things we were leaving behind, with a promise not to discuss them the whole time we were in paradise. We crumpled them up and threw them in the trash before boarding. I might have cathartically crumpled mine a few [or 10] times.
When we landed my precious sun-kissed-joy-filled-beaming-smiles little sister picked us up, pretty sure the smiles were the result of the 100 count Chick-Fil-A nuggets box I handed over, her oven was already pre-heated and she wasn’t sharing even just one with her husband 🤣
After a quick inhale, we set off for the Grand Wailea Hotel where she worked and checked into our room, paradise was here...gorgeous room, incredible pool, and a spa like nothing I had ever experienced. We were given the locals tour of the island, hiking up gorgeous banyan tree filled trails, cooled by mile high waterfall mist, refreshed swimming in sacred pools, we learned there are no snakes on Maui, no snakes!! The views from Haleakalā were breathtaking, we saw the highly endangered silversword plant, sunned ourselves on the black beach, had a severe case of motion sickness on the road to Hana, and drove the coastline taking in the power of the ocean as it slammed against the shore, and we said humuhumunukunukuapua'a 🐟 a lot. Many of my travels have changed my perspective on life, Maui’s gift was one of deep acceptance of things out of my control and giving way to abiding peace.

I looked out the window of my dads second story condominium at the purple haze of mountains in the distance, it was the first time I think I ever had an actual Aha! moment... ‘Purple mountain majesty’ began playing in my head and I made the connection that ‘America The Beautiful’, a poem turned song by Katherine Lee Bates, must have been talking about this kind of unforgettable beauty. The mountains were really purple and majestic!! We took the ride up Pike’s Peak, trailed on horseback through the Garden of the Gods, my brother and I would go skiing when I visited. He was really good at skiing, living there full time with my dad and his wonderful amazing mom, and would often leave me in a cloud of powder and laugh like all little brothers should. I married an outdoors man, my perfect match in every way, he loves the Colorado mountains too. He went to college in Colorado and had many exciting adventures biking and skiing. This painting of the San Juan Mountains is from a now vintage photograph of him and his buddy at the top of Needles...merged with memories of the majestic purple mountains of my childhood.

Gorgeous days and star lit nights...me and my three precious littles under five. My best friend would drive down to visit on the weekends and give us the home grown tour with her tiny little Jack Russel Terrier puppies in tow. We would have deep healing talks while the littles and puppies enjoyed splashing in the water, lots of barking and squealing all around. We toured the gorgeous lake, took hundreds of pictures from every angle, rode the gondola up Heavenly Valley still covered in snow. I still laugh to this day that we were wearing our sandals and sun dresses and shorts. It had never occurred to me that while I was looking forward to being in “Sunny California” the “Golden State” had to do with actual ‘gold’...not the golden warmth of the sun. *duh* Can anyone say “gold rush”? 🤣 I’m embarrassed to say I was born here, I should know better. The further north we headed the lower the temperatures dropped. After a few more weeks we high tailed it down to San Diego!! Straight down hill, completely vertical, 31’ travel trailer about to come over the top of my head, feet pressing the brake into the floorboard the trailer brake on high...and we are still rolling 20mph down a windy road. Praying hard and hiding my fear, me and my three littles made it to the bottom ravine alive by the grace of God and a host of angels I have no doubt. As we pulled into the rv park I was so relieved that our week of travel from Texas had come to an end for a while. We were now at the most beautiful National Park I had dreamed of visiting for years and it definitely did not disappoint. Majestic dogwoods towering like a canopy of lights as we entered Yosemite, snow melting into powerful waterfalls gushing over the edge of the cliffs, we stopped and filled our water bottles on the edge of stone walls as high as the eye could see...I can still taste it today. We watched bear cubs frolicking in fields as the joy of spring came alive right before our eyes. My best friend came down to stay with us for a few weeks, we had the time of our lives. The stories are legend and it has now become a pilgrimage for many of our loved ones. I’m smiling...again.

After miles and miles of Texas flat flat flat, oil trucks, gravel spills, jockeying for position, and bathroom breaks that seriously mess up all of that hard work to get in front of everyone (!!!!), the temperature dropped and the suburban elevated as we headed uphill into “The Land of Enchantment”...instant atmosphere change for our spirit. Something about this place feels like heaven, ushering in magical dreams and all of those surging skin tingles indicating something really good and unexplainable has happened. We explored Lincoln National Forest and hiked Sacramento Mountains, and were beyond blessed to see two HUGE majestic elk standing before us on the ridge. They weren’t afraid, as the love of my life tried to tiptoe closer, he looked like a Dr Seuss character, freezing still, body contorted, as a stick would break and ruin his ‘hush’ stance, still cracks me up. The awe inspiring sunset between the towering pines was absolutely breathtaking, as reminders of “us” truly resuscitated our hearts walking hand in hand back down the trail. Just a few days in a sweet little cabin overlooking the golf course, hummingbirds in abundance and a gorgeous Steller’s Jay pair enjoying morning coffee with us on the deck...they seemed to be a sign, every day visiting us ‘together’. We savored the quiet fireplace nights reconnecting and reminding us of us, who we really are when the world has crowded in again. The two became One.

Tent camping, hot sun, fresh air, breeze blowing, the little boy laughing hysterically with his puppy in the surf, love of my life setting up surf rods and casting a net for bait, chair and umbrella and table full of watercolor supplies ready to recreate our little heaven, no signal, no electricity, no worries...this is our best life. My paper doesn’t dry too fast with the humidity, the salty air makes for stellar plein air painting days. Such a small matter that sand gets in the tent no matter how many times I try to sweep it out, soothing waves lapping the shore bring nights of peaceful sleep that are incomparable. And the stars, oh the stars, reminding us that although minutia in the cosmos, we are so greatly loved.

The big flood of 2018 changed the trajectory of the river we love to kayak, which gave our new puppy lots of room to roam, chase butterflies and fireflies, discover deer, paddle all over and dig to his little hearts content on the shore of the Llano. It was so much fun watching him in discovery overload at our favorite place to tent camp, shiny little black nose smelling it ALL until he wore out and for the first time slept through the entire night. He is a natural outdoors dog and a perfect fit for our family, especially the little boy. Getting outside is at the core to our existence, freedom awaits in the simple, campfires, s’mores, morning bird songs, sunrises and sunsets, hiking and long naps, coffee and trees rustling in the breeze, waking up next to all that matters most, in breathtaking Creation that is a priceless gift to mankind. Four walls forget...maybe that’s why I love to say ‘Bedouin’ so much, always dreaming of a life full of wander and wonder.

Here the longest barrier island in the world comes to an end, I know this because the love of my life tells me every. single. time. we head out for the 5 hour journey south to take in its salt air and beautiful white sand beaches. This is one the very few coastal spots in Texas that doesn’t allow cars to park along its shores. The littles can run free without worrying they’ll get run over in the spontaneity of chasing a ball and the adults can relax under colorful umbrellas in the gentle breeze and catch up on all the new stories of life and family...or tell the same old ones and belly laugh again. The sunrises here glisten like a colorful cascarón along the surface of the water, ushering in the local culture of a daily Fiesta 🎉 Outdoor water sports, seafood restaurants, Schlitterbahn, and authentic Mexican tacos, deep sea fishing, bay fishing, all the fishing, water ballon fights, endless shopping, and a nightly fireworks extravaganza over an ice cream cone. I’m just remembering our daughter ‘having’ to bring her new hamster Ranger with us, she bought him at the ‘all male Petsmart’ and we woke up one morning to find several little babies had miraculously appeared 🤣 Memories with family last a lifetime and hold us together, thanking God for ours. Hidden on the dunes between the grocery store and the shore, weathered steps lead up to a little chapel overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. I have never once heard anyone talk about it, nor have I accidentally stumbled upon it, eluding me for the more than 45 years of travels to Port Aransas...until last summer when the love of my life saw it on the map while likely looking for a good surf fishing spot, and curious he took us on an excursion of discovery. There it was! Right in the middle of a neighborhood, mysterious steps appeared between a phone pole and some garbage cans. As we ascended the steps it was like we had gone back in time, a huge lone palm tree appeared and behind it was the little stucco chapel with its absolutely adorable gothic wooden door. We went around the side and peeked in the windows to find the most surprising detailed murals lined the walls, with plenty of wooden pews to hold a sweet intimate family wedding. My imagination trailing off to this little chapel hosting a wedding for our children, I painted a watercolor to remember the hope of a bright future.

Up before the sun, coffee in hand, arriving at the marina in the dark ready for wonderful fishing day. One of the many things the love of my life and I enjoy most is saltwater fishing along the Texas coast. Our trusted guide waves us his direction and we board. We have stayed loyal to him for many years, he is very good to us, always giving us his best whether we catch fish or not. It’s the highlight of my day just watching the sunrise across the still water, not a speck of land in sight. Our little boy is a natural, he comes by it honestly, always bringing toys to keep himself occupied until his line takes off and his reel screams. Red fish are my personal favorite, they put up a good fight and make the whole experience fun, trout are boring and just let you bring them in, but they taste better. Some days we come home with a bounty, others with nothing but the smiles on our faces...and we know it’s worth every penny either way. Memories that last a lifetime.

“It’s a BEACHY smell” proclaimed my daughter from her booster in the back seat every single time we drove into our favorite little coastal town. It was like her sixth sense superpower, she knew we had arrived in her favorite spot on earth. This is the place of summer memories, sand pails, mini zebco Spider-Man and Princess fishing poles, hunts for sea glass, and dinner on the picnic bench, sunrises and fireflies, and the freedom to be everything a little child should be. Many tears were shed when it was time to head home. Over the years this small town has grown, tackle town expanded, Panjo’s got realllllly popular, they added a lane and a light, national chains moved in, more people and more traffic, but it has always somehow maintained its small town feel. When it was leveled by Hurricane Harvey generous hearts came out to lend a hand, they are STRONG, they believed, and they have recovered. The fishing culture is at the heart of it all, it would be hard to find a house or retailer that didn’t have a piece of art on their wall reflecting the humble bait camp character of the town. Support your mom and pop locally grown bait camp, its a lot of work to bring in the very thing that keeps the town going with visitors to its fishing guides, piers, and restaurants. Of all of the colorful flags flying high...my favorite is the yellow one. This was painted in honor of my best friends hubby, it’s his chosen supply house for all nighters on the pier...thanks for all of the years of wonderful memories.
